How long to wait before ESWT?

Posted by MeganV on 3/18/04 at 11:58 (147218)

I've had heel pain for about 3 - 4 months now (after having my first child - I know that is indirectly related tho) and just recently saw a podiatrist. I am taking an NSAID, doing stretches, icing, using orthotics and trying to lay off of offending exercise (step aerobics, treadmill). How long do you think I should wait before exploring an option such as ESWT. Thank you for your time!!

IF you are in pain and have what is called first step heel pain. This is when you have foot pain and or limp when you first get up in the AM or after sitting for any length of time. Duration of pain is usually six months as an indication for ESWT. IF you aren't improving and all other posssible causes have been explored then ESWT is a very serious consideration for your pf pain
