TTS: Had surgery almost 3 months ago.....Posted by Stephanie A. on 4/20/04 at 19:08 (149246)
I had the TTS surgery done on my right foot on Jan. 26,2004. Since then the pain in my heel and ankle have gotton worse rather than better. My Doc doesnt know that is going on, he hasnt had this happen before. Last week on Wed. I woke up and could not put any weight on the foot at all, I ended up missing 3 days of work, and went to the doctor 3 days in a row. He ended up strapping my foot, which only helped for an hour or so, then the next day he gave me a steroid injection, which did help for about a week. He now has me on Celebrex, which does help some, but I still have alot of pain. In the morning mostly, I cant hardly stand on my foot, I have to take my medicene, wait for it to kick in, then I can get ready for work. The worse thing is, I am on my feet constantly at work, which Im sure doesnt help any. Has anyone had the surgery and it got worse like me? I have made an apptmt with a nerve specialist and I go next Monday, but I am not getting my hopes up, as it seems everytime I think it gets better, it gets worse again.
Any help would be appreciated.

Are you on medication...if so what is it?

My doctor currently has me on Celebrex.

Sorry...just assumed he had you on some other medications. Some have had success with Ultrum. You may want to consider neurontin or topamax. I have not had the surgery. I personally had some problems with celebrex as one of the side affects is swelling. Just what I needed additional swelling in my ankle area. You may want to ask for a slightly stronger pain med. Just a suggestion. I'm no doc.

Is the foot swollen? Any color or temperature changes?

I really cant tell, it does seem as if there is a little swelling around the scar. No color change though. My scar is not looking good at all. My friend has had two surgeries, one on each foot, and you cannot even see her scars....mine..well, it actually looks like a nightcrawler....I know that sounds stupid, but the way the scar is shaped, that is the way it looks, and it is very red, and looks as if it will burst any minute.

Use vitamin E every day on the scar. There are also some new scar medications and bandaids that help get rid of scars that you can buy in any drug store. If the incision is still raw, ask your MD before using the scar medications, but you can safely use the Vitamin E. My scar is only a month old and vitamin E really has worked well. Later I may try the scar medication. Good luck!

How much and what kind of PT have you had?
Re: TTS: Had surgery almost 3 months ago.....Stephanie A. on 4/24/04 at 18:15 (149492)
I have only had the ultrasound machine used for PT for about 10 minutes the week after surgery. I have had no other PT. Is that bad? I thought that I would have more, but the doctor hasnt mentioned it. My foot has been feeling better the last couple of days. I tried to find a compression sock, but couldnt find one, so I bought an ankle wrap, and have been using it, and my foot doesnt hurt in the morning now, and does well the rest of the day, unless Im on it for hours and hours, but the pain still isnt as bad as it has been. Do you think it is the ankle wrap that is helping it? Thanks.

I am so sorry to hear that its been almost a year and no relief for you. I hope that mine gets better before then. My doctor did tell me that it could take up to a year before I was pain free or close to it. Have you tried the Celebrex, because it does work well. It worked well for me until the morning I woke up and couldnt walk. I dont know what happened but I was doing so good, and then.... terrible. I hope that you get some relief soon. What has your doctor done for you?

it sounds like you are spending too much time on your feet. At 3 months, I could only be on my feet maybe 20 minutes at at time and still used crutches quite a bit, I f I wnet longer boy it would kill me. Ijust learned from my body and what my limitations were and backed off. Mr Dr was the same way about PT and Insisted and it was a life saver, I wouldnt have the mtion I do now and the strenghtening excercise really helped.
