Painful needle shot

Posted by gail on 5/03/04 at 18:38 (149963)

Dear Doctor: I have PF on my left foot and been diagnosed with Xray of heel spur since January. I had one cortisone shot on the side the heel. The needle shot was painful. Would like to know if there is something I could take to relax or feel less pain on my next cortisone shot. Tylenols, a glass of wine? Would appreciate your advise. GAIL

The pain associated with a 'cortisone' shot is, in large part, due to doctor technique. For example, using a freezing spray at the area of injection helps. Pre-numbing the area helps.
