You need to see your doctor again. This probaby is something that can be padding until the scar heals so get to your doctor !

Hi thankyou so much,i cant go to my doc, sorry,im just too scared, but what i did do was stick a needle in the lump, and it went down a whole lot,and now it kind of looks and fels like a calloussy type lump, like you get when youve had maybe a shoe rubbing on toes etc. What is surgical padding?.
bless you so much for answering,i cant tell you how grateful i am,sadly i have been so scared by a melanoma i had on my leg in 2000,and severelly depressed since, that im just in no state to hear anything bad, again.i get all clear in april 05,and my melanoma although 1.5,was superficial, and apparently the best kind, and the specialist said at beggining my survival was 75%,but now he says the chances of recurrence are minimal.Im just so scared, and alone,i turned to you in sheer desperation.Thankyou soo much.Love Ann(u.k)xxxxx

Ann - I hope that the doctors will respond to you again, but in the meantime, I must tell you that what you have described needs a firm response: first, if you cannot go to the doctor because of your fear, then I urge you to think logically. You went to the doctor before and got good treatment and a positive result. Knowing that you had a successful removal of a melanoma, why would you 'mess around' with an unknown lump on your toe? Why would you stick a needle into a lump of unknown type or origin? For one thing, you could cause it to be infected. I was not certain if you meant that you were severely depressed because of the diagnosis you had in 2000,or if you are severely depressed generally. If the former, then it is not likely that trying to ignore your fears and neglect your health will resolve that depression. If the latter, then getting professional help might very well help you feel better. Whatever you decide to do, you should stop poking needles into 'lumps' that appear on your body! Even if that 'lump' was a simple blister, one has to be careful about them. I am guessing that Dr. Z was referring to padding that would provide cushion, protection from rubbing. I didn't read that he said 'surgical padding' - just padding. He will probably clarify for you what he meant. If you are alone and desperate, then please do come here and talk to the good people here, because many people here have had those dark feelings at one time or another.... but also, do use your head about your health, will you?

I would love to come and talk,as i am totally alone, and have no friends etc.I went into shock when i had melanoma in 2000,as i never sunbathe always use a factor 65 plus sunscreen and sun always gave me headache, hence im like a huge pint of milk.I have mainly stayed home and in bed especially the last 6months,i just feel no-one knows i exist, and my life is so awful, and i can see no light at end of tunnel.I always go for my 6month check ups with the specialist ,and i think i must have ony about 2more visits left before i get all clear and maybe then my life can begin again.im only 45but i feel like im at least 150!lololol. bless you,and i would love to find somewhere to make friends and chat.Much love to you.Ann.xxxxxx

Ann, do go to your doctor. Whatever this lump is, it needs treatment (and not self-needling!) Given your excellent prognosis, the chances are it is not a recurrence of melanoma, so seeing the doctor would reassure you. And in the remote chance that it is something serious, the sooner it's dealt with the better, of course - I'm sure you know this.
I've had cancer too, and I know the fear you're in the grip of: the fear that it will come back. All I can say is that a fear that is acknowledged and shared loses much of its power over you. Right now your fear is clouding your judgement, and denying you the reassurance and the treatment that you need. So please do see your doctor, as Dr Z and Dorothy have already advised.
You may also want to find someone to talk to about your fears. I see that you're in the UK. Are you in London? If you are, I suggest you get in touch with the Cancer Counselling Trust. I've had contact with them because they refer people to my yoga for cancer class: they are helpful, kind people who know all about these fears, and could help. Their address is: 1 Noel Road, London N1 8HQ (near Angel tube station) and their telephone number is 020 7704 1137. If you don't live in London, they may be able to suggest a source of help nearer to you. They also have a website: http://www.cctrust.org.uk
Cancer BACUP has a helpline: 0808 800 1234, and their website is excellent: http://www.cancerbacup.org.uk/Home .
I hope that having made contact here on this website is helping you feel a little less isolated. Keep coming!
All the best,

Ann, I think you need to talk to someone about your unreasonable fear. I think you have more of a problem with fear than anything else. Phobias and depression can be helped, but not by staying inside and not seeing anyone.
I am NOT a Dr., but I am a Melanoma survivor. My Melanoma was removed 12 years ago, and except for annual follow-ups, it has 0% impact on my life. Melanoma doesn't look like a blister. A family Dr. can probably tell you in a minute about the lump.
Remember that fear of what the Dr. might tell you has NO bearing on the ailment, but can seriously effect the outcome. If you delay in seeking medical help, serious problems might get worse. Hiding from your fear will not reduce the fear only make it worse. Carl
