Healthcare is unusual in that the consumer is usually not the payor. The consequence is that the payor then makes the choices for us. The real importance of this site and others like it is that it provides a tool for patients to make intelligent choices about their healthcare. Patients making informed choices about their healthcare, ultimately, is the way to better, more cost effective healthcare choices. Patients can look at the direct costs, long term consequences of their decisions and indirect costs, that is, how care will affect their earning ability and productivity. Those are issues that health insurers have little motivation to consider...
