Annie:
Your mental state will improve when you realize that the problem is generally curable. ESWT has replaced surgery as the treatment of choice for difficult cases. Please read Scott's Heel Pain Book on this site.

I totally sympathise with you Annie. In the early years for me ,sometimes the pain was so bad I just wanted to cut my feet off to get away from it. However, for no apparent reason, the pains subsided to a 'tolerable' level and have since cycled between almost normal (as long as I don't use them much) to very painful. I found that Co-Dydromol was effective at taking the edge off the pain after takeing them regularly for a few days. I have to admit to drinking a lot more red wine than is probably good for me at times!
It's sometimes difficult to get people to understand just how debilitating this is and I feel that I've aged about 20 years since it started about 6 years ago. I can't walk any real distance, and I loved to walk, I wake up tired and in pain and by lunchtime I just want to go to bed. I don't know how others can hold a job down because I'm finding it a real strain.
But please hang in there Annie. Hopefully there will be a real breakthrough one day.

Dave,
Sometimes depression can occur as a result of dealing with long term pain.
This part of P.F. is easily helped by the right treatment and doctor. If you think you might be suffering with some depression you might want to seek help in that direction too.
