Hard castsPosted by Pauline on 7/19/04 at 22:39 (155899)
To our doctors:
I've heard this in the past and wondered if it was really true. If one doctor puts a hard cast on a patient no other doctor is allowed to order it be removed accept the doctor that put it on.
Is this an old wives tale? It doesn't make sense to me because if there was an emergency, I think any doctor at a hospital would cut it off without contacting the original doctor, but then again I don't know cast protocol.
Who rules over casts removal?

No one 'rules' over cast removal and anyone can remove another doctor's casts. There is always some reluctance to interfere with another doctor's care.

Thanks for clearing that up.
