The bottom of my feet burn as if someone is holding a torch about an inch away from them. Is there a remedy I might try?

There are many reasons for burning feet, neuropathy (degneration of the nerves) being one of them. I think it is important to see a specialist to find out why your feet are burning.

Do you have a diagnosis for the cause of your burning feet? If not I certainly wouldn't rush into surgery until you at least know what is causing your problem.
Without knowing your diagnosis or the type of surgery you are considering it's difficult for anyone to offer you advice.
