New thread on changing PF diagnosisPosted by Scott Mc on 8/05/04 at 13:18 (156990)
My earlier thread noted that the pain had changed from classic PF heel pain to pain in heel, arch, and ball-of-foot. This led my DPM and DPMs on this site to suspect that I was not suffering from PF. Well, I found my old orthotics and started wearing them again. The symptoms are now more classic -- focused in the heel. I believe my DPM overbuilt the arch in the new orthotics and thus created a new pattern of pain. This new pattern of pain led to diagnosis confusion. Anyway, I'm back to old orthotics and classic heel pain symptoms and PF. All this due to new orthotics. My DPM couldn't figure out new symptoms caused by the orthotics he built. I had to figure it out. Anyway, something for all to be aware of ...

Sometimes we are our own best detectives. If your old orthotics are still causing you pain do you plan to continue wearing them and is your doctor now going to grind down the new ones?

PF is causing pain. New othortics made it worse. DPM had made several adjustments (grinds)to new orthotics, to no avail. I will go back to wearing my old orthotics as they do not have the overbuilt arch that makes pain worse. I may try the other DPM in town.
After having turned down ESWT due to $2500 out-of-pocket costs, I will now undergo ESWT next week, as I have found a place that will waive machine costs--if not covered by insurance--(?!?) and my out-of-pocket costs will be only the $850 DPM fees.

Boy, I sure like seeing these NEW lower prices for people wanting to try ESWT. I hope your treatment turns out to be a success story.

Good luck. Make sure you get that no charge from the machne company in writing. Very important.

Cannot get it in writing. I called United Shock Wave Therapies in Chicago (Dornier machine) and had long discussions with them. They made many promises and tried to re-assure me that I would not be charged. I spoke with Pam Vukovich and Kathy Serpico. They absolutely assured me I would not be charged but they also absolutely assured me that they would not put that in writing. So, can I trust them or do I cancel the treatment?

This is my own personal opinion. I would never agreed to anything that isn't placed into writing, especially when you are talking thousands of dollars.
