Ankle Brace Orthoisis Pressure on tendons? Dr Ed?

Posted by John Martello on 8/22/04 at 10:34 (158535)

Dr ED,

I am having problems with Flexor hallucis Longus tenosynovits which the pain is localized near the tarsal tunnel region.
I was using a Ankle stablize orthois i bought from med spec.com and it is the lace up type with velcro straps to basket weave and support the ankle.

I find it constrcting the ankle and would like to know if it could actaully be more of an detriment to the ankle tarsal area? I've seen elbow tendonitis straps, patellar tendon straps which put pressure on the tendon for relief, but is this not a good idea for the FHL TEndon region?

Thanks again

A brace which is too constrictive can cause a problem. The area of pressure needs not to be over the tarsal tunnel area.
