swollen foot

My husband's foot has been swollen for over a year and a half. He has gone to some doctors about the problem, but they haven't been able to get anywhere with a diagnosis. One doctor said it isn't a circulatory problem, but possibly a lyphatic or parasite problem. He went to a lyphatic technician who said that if it's a lymph problem, then it's something he hasn't seen before, but that it might be lymphatic. The doctors suggested that he wear compression stockings, put his feet up frequently, and get foot massages...all of which he has been doing. However, we would like to find out what is going on and not just try to manage the problem. In fact, it's getting worse, not better. His ankle is now swollen too and from time to time the swelling extends into his leg. His foot gets so swollen sometimes that it is very painful and he limps. At one point, his other foot started swelling too - luckily that has gone down. We don't know what type of doctor to visit next or what could possibly be going on...he is only 23 and we are very concerned. Any ideas?

He should see a vascular specialist ASAP. He is way too young to have this type of problem. I can speculate on causes but feel that that would not be of good service; the vascular surgeon is best qualified to figure it out.
