Progress or lack of...Posted by Place on 10/21/04 at 19:03 (161934)
Well, my last visit with Dr. Sandell was in early September, since them I have slowly lost ground. I was able to walk over an hour and spend 45 minutes in a store. I am still better off having gone there as I did improve from my baseline. Perhaps if I lived there and was able to continue with his treatement I would have continued to progress. I do have to say, he is one of the best doc out there, really knows his stuff and cared about his work. I am at least thankful for the three months I did have from PF.

Place - I'm sorry to hear about your progress, or lack thereof as you say. I was so hopeful for you when you were going to see Dr. Sandell. (I read these boards a lot even though I don't post too often.) Is there someone in your area who does similar treatments? I was actually contemplating flying to Minnesota to see Dr. Sandell. I live in California so it wasn't too practical and I thought, there's got to be somone here who does what Dr. Sandell does. I went on the Graston Technique website and got several names and started calling around. I found someone who's 30 minutes away and I've been in treatment for about a month. He does a combination of ART, Graston, TFM and the treatments are helping but it's taking time. I was on my feet over an hour the other day with only minor soreness the next day which is now gone. (I have a tendency to overdo when I feel better.) I go twice a week and they spend from 20 - 30 minutes on my foot. Usually someone warms me up - which I found out is not a nice hot towel but a less painful version of what the doctor does - and then the doctor works on me. I have also continued using the Foot Trainer, doing Julie's yoga exercises and various other exercises and stretches. I'm very thankful for this board and all the good advice I've gotten. I never would have thought about going to a chiropractor for my foot if it hadn't been for you and John from MN and goose. I hope you can get back to Dr. Sandell at some point or at least find someone in your area who can help you.

Cindy- That's great you have found someone and are doing well. Your guy sounds great! I think many have stated on this board that having the right physical therapist/doc/pod or whom ever is the primary key to getting better. I am in the process of finding someone here in Ohio, it is difficult to find someone who takes a more comprehensive approach to finding a solution. Good luck and keep us posted!

Can you guess what happened? Why did you start going downhill? Does Dr. Sandell have any ideas as to why you are regressing?

Sorry to hear you are losing ground! I can imagine how hard it would be to make a full recovery with only limited visits. I really hope you can find someone near you to help. I had a flare-up a few weeks back that I am just getting over... I walked a mile in bad shoes. So, I am backing off the running and doing lots of yoga. Overall, I am much improved although I still am not perfect but getting there. I still need to be aware of my shoes and not over do it on my feet, but at least I can be more normal. Hang in there- you will get there!

You have just asked the million dollar question! I think one of thing Dr. Sandell did was reduction of inflammation via ultra sound and he did some intense stretching. Perhaps having him for flair up really make the difference. I really don't know.

I read with interest your comments about Dr. Sandell and the positive though limited effects his treatment had on your condition. Have you tried Low Intensity Laser Therapy? My son suffered from Plantar Fasciitis for 2 years. A combination of orthotis and 8 treatments using the Bio Flex laser system has totally alleviated his pain. That was one year ago and it has not returned. For more information on the Bio Flex laser system please visit http://www.meditech-bioflex.com .
