Doctors - Alcohol Injections for Morton's Neuroma

Posted by Darlene on 11/16/04 at 20:01 (164107)

Do you know if anyone does ultrasound guided alcohol injections? Wouldn't the success rate shoot right up if you could see where it is going?

Why do orthopedic surgeons not do these injections.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

I occasionally will use ultrasound guided alcohol injections. Ultrasound is only needed if one is aiming for a target that needs the help of imaging.
I cannot speak for orthopedic surgeons using or not using the injections but your have to remember that podiatrists act, in a way like orhtopedics surgeons, neurologists, dermatologists andd physical therapists of the feet -- we generally treat the entire gammut of foot problems from various perspectives.

Is Morton's neuroma something that would benefit from imaging?

Do you know what the success rate using alcohol injections? I am hoping there is a way to avoid the trama of surgery.

Thank you.

I do not think that imaging or guided injections signifigantly influence
the outcome
sclerosing seems to be about a 50% cure in my experience
