Chronic foot pain

Posted by Lloyd M on 12/12/04 at 00:11 (165514)

Two years ago I sprained my foot. The first x-rays indicated possible medial fracture of the talus dome. 5 months later RMI was done indicating no fracture of the talus dome, but partail tear of the deltiod ligament and fibular tip avalusion. At which point I started 4 hours of physio for a period of 3months. The range of motion has returned to aprox. 90% , but with extreme pain when walking any distance more than two blocks, any manuel weight bearing over 10-12lbs causes the foot to quit moving. There is pain on the medial and lateral sides of the foot. When bending down there is pain in the front part of the ankle. When ever in a vechicle the vibration causes pain that propergates down thought the toes. Will this ever end?

Considering that 2 years has gone by, it sounds like you may need more agressive treatment. If the deltoid ligament has not completely healed, that can allow your foot to roll in too much an an orthotic may help that.
If the problem is that the area of fracture of the talar dome has left a 'groove' in the cartilage, that may need to be smoothed via an arthroscope. I don't want to speculate too much as I am just exploring potential possiblities here. A visit to a foot specialist would help confirm the cause with more certainty.
