heel tapingPosted by Sue H on 12/13/04 at 20:27 (165588)
What is the correct way to tape for a heel spur? And what kind of tape?

What you are taping for is plantar fasciitis, using a taping designed to minimize strain/tension on the fascia. Generally a sports tape is used, available at most sporting good stores. Sports tape is simply porous cloth tape designed to be fairly strong yet tear easily since athletic trainors don't always have a scissor available. Don't get too concerned about the brand of tape as it is the taping technique that matters more than the brand of tape. If you tape frequently, buy a pre- tape spray, also available at sporting goods stores. The spray helps the tape stick better and minimizes skin irritation by placing a barrier between the tape adhesive and your skin. This site has several methods listed although the best taping in my opinion is known as the 'low dye' taping. If you punch 'low dye taping' into search engines you are likely to find pictures/diagrams which show it better than it can be verbally explained.

Sue, you'll find instructions and illustrations for some simple taping techniques in the heel pain book, part 2.
I used Leuko tape, which doesn't stretch and was very effective.
