toenail confusion...Posted by Gh0ce on 4/29/05 at 02:57 (173908)
hi... I'm a first time poster, and have actually never been to see a foot doctor. But now I'm a little confused as to what happened. About a month and a half ago, my one toenail was was getting long, so I trimmed it. I made it a little short though (not enough to bleed but there was almost nothing left that wasn't attached to the toe (ie no part to clean)). Anyways, I didn't think too much of it at the time, as toenails grow back... but that is where my problem lies: it hasn't grown back. It isn't sore, or discolored, but the skin on the end of my toe is starting to grow 'up' more, in front of the nail. I can still bend my toe and have not had any problems, but the nail seems to have stopped growing.
Now, my question is: is this something I should go see a doctor about, or should I be happy because I now have 1 less nail to cut?

Must make sure there is no fungal infection going on

fungal infection would cause the toenail to become discolored, correct? Because as of right now, the left big toe toenail looks almost identical to the right, apart from it being a little shorter and the end of the toe bulging up a little bit. It also isn't sore or ingrown (from what I could tell), it just stopped growing...
