Centers of Excellence in treatment of Plantar FasciitisPosted by Snug on 7/12/05 at 20:08 (178267)
Almost all medical conditions have one or two medical centers or teaching hospitals that provide the finest care for a specific condition. What are are centers of excellence for the treatment of plantar fasciitis in the U.S.?

Most podiatrists are very good at treating plantar fasciitis due most cases of pf are treated by podiatrists.
The doctor should have the ability to refer to excellent physical therapy groups, neurologist, and or pain specialist. Must he have the ability to do foot surgery? . No

I should have given you a little background. I have suffered with PF pain from time to time during the last 15 years. In that time I have seen at least 10 podiatrists and 2 orthopedic surgeons. Most of them wanted to sell me something to treat the condition. I have had numerous injections which provide short term relief. I have two pair of custom orthotics that provide me with relief most of the time. However, I am an avid hiker and when I start preparing for a long hike I generally get some PF pain back. I get an injection just before a long hike for the pain. I would like to go to a center of excellence and have a thorough evaluation. I do not mind traveling to utilize the services of the teaching hospital or medical facility that is considered the best in the treatment of PF. Where is that facility?

Dr Z......I know of one podiatrist in Encinitas that got a flunking grade in treating my PF. The guy put me in a cast for 6 weeks and then told me to never run or walk my dog ever. When I run my next marathon he's getting a copy of my bib and the finisher's list.

I live in South Florida although I do not mind taking a plane to any location in the U.S. For example, my wife has a fairly common neurological condition that is treated by most neurolgists in general practice in out area. We discovered that when we went to the national centers of excellence for her condition (Johns Hopkins and the U. of Pittsburgh) the level of expertise and quality of care were far superior to what could find locally-including the teaching hopitals and medical schools here in Florida. Where are those facilities for the treatment of PF?

A few of the people here have posted about Dr. Theodore. He is with Mass. General.
Here is a few sentences I found in Scott's search area.
Dr. Theodore is an orthopedic surgeon who lead the FDA study on the Dornier machine. He is the head of foot and ankle surgery at Mass General, a Harvard teaching institution. Harvard is one of the leading medical institutions in America and in the world!
Dr. R. Alvarez in Chattanooga has also been mentioned here. He is in Chattanooga, Tenn.
I don't know if anyone knows who is the best, but these are names that
have appeard on this site. If you do a search you may find others also listed.
