You can make a night splint out of a plastic detergent bottle. Cruise the supermarket aisle for a bottle that looks like it will fit a around your foot pretty well, cut off the handle and spout pad it with foam rubber, glue velcro "shoelaces", heck you can even glue nonskid rubber to the bottom.
