Do night splints work?

My podiatrist prescribed a night splint that holds my foot at an 85 degree angle (5 degrees of toes pointed toward my face). I've worn it for two nights, and it's very uncomfortable. In fact, the pain in my foot awakened me this morning. Is this a matter of just getting used to the splint? Has anyone had any success with night splints?
