I have had PF for 2 years. I was fit with custom orthotics about 1 1/2 years ago. They definetly made a difference for me. Prior to that I had tried the ones you can buy in a store and did not have much luck. I don't think I would be where I am today without them. I still have pain, but not the intense pain I had in the beginning. I am now going to try weaning myself off the orthotics. I think you may reach a point where they stop helping and start affecting other parts of your foot. My insurance covered the cost of mine. If they hadn't I'm not sure what I would have done. In hindsight it would have been worth the money to pay for them on my own. I was told they were around $200. But it is hard to decide because they don't work for everyone. Good luck.
