I would try the birks... I used to have to wear shoes or sneakers with high top because I needed the support... but find I can wear the birks with no troubles. I think the foot bed keeps my feet and ankles in the proper position. Doctors do not know everything and sometimes don't know that much! So give them a try... at least go try them on at the store and see how they feel.. worth trying to get rid of the pain. I used to work retail too and think that cause my problem. I use birks shoes for work and they help greatly! You are not alone... that is what we are here for.. to help each other navigate this twisting ugly road of pf. Good Luck :)
