I have seen both podiatrists and orthpedic surgeons since I was diagnosed a year and a half ago. In my experience, the podiatrists are much more eager to do surgery and describe it as "easy" and having "90% chance of curing pain." I just don't believe their optimism. The orthopods discussed surgery, but in much more guarded terms. One ortho(foot and ankle specialist) said that he would endure a LOT of pain before letting anyone perform surgery for pf (open release) on him and was wary of effects on the foot years after the surgery. It might be interesting to get a slightly different viewpoint by trying an orthopedic surgeon....just a thought...
