How do we know if our surg. was properly done?

How long should we be in pain after surg. is done. I can hardly walk for more than 3min. at a time. the pain is terrible. Surg. was 6 weeks ago on one ft. and two weeks ago on the other. My life is not the same as before. My recent surg. (2 wks.) has left that foot worse. I can not go back to work as yet and does someone have the same type of problem?
