Hi,
I've just got a custom made orthotic with high arch support
which has been giving me pain. I've had orthotics before
but with low arch which was okay, but I had to get new
ones since the old one is worn out. My doctor says orthotics
with high arch gives my feet some corrections. I don't
know what to do. I like to know if anyone has had my
experience with high arch inserts, and what you've done.

Thanks,
Zohreh

Yes, I had custom orthotics that were very high and I could not wear them. They
made my feet hurt worse and I truly believe after the years of PF I have had that
anything that hurts and makes it worse is not worth doing.

I now use the Arizona Birkenstocks and they have made all the difference in the
world. I tried a higher arched birk for just 15-20 min. in a birk store (because I have
such a high natural arch and they thought I needed to try the Tatami style). I had to
get them off my feet and immediately felt better with them off.

You should get some birk sandals and try them. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised
how good your feet will feel in them. I was "pain free" until a few weeks ago when I
aggravated my PF - won't go into what all I did to cause it but --- am back on birks
and getting better each day. Diane

I have to agree with Diane R. I got orthotics for my high arch just before the 4th of
July. They hurt but I tried to break them in slowly. A month later I was in such pain
that I couldn't even walk!! I quit wearing them and listened to Diane and Lisa Chaken
and bought Arizona Birkenstocks. I have worn them 99.9% of my waking hours for
the past 6 weeks. They took some getting used to but now I love them! Try
them...they're definitely worth it.

I would not wear these supports...anything that hurts that bad is not good. I have 2
pair of custom arches, one hard pair{YUK} and one higher arched soft pair. The high
arched ones turn my foot outward, they built it up but it still was uncomfortable..by
the end of a 10 hour day I was ready to scream. I am an RN and some of my patients
swear by the magnetic treatments, insoles ect. I finally broke down and spent another
$20.oo....after all I have already spent $2000.00 out of my own pocket over the past
3 years....THEY ARE WONDERFUL...CONSTANTLY GENTLY MASSAGE
YOUR FEET WHILE WALKING...I AM NOT SURE HOW THEY WORK BUT
STILL CAN NOT BELIEVE THE DIFFERENCE....I AM 90% BETTER IN ONE
WEEK. MY ADVICE TO ALL IS TRY IT AND SEE FOR YOURSELF. I HAVE
BIRKENSTOCKS, NIGHT BRACE, DAY BRACE, ORTHOTICS, ICE
PACKS, REFLEXOLOGY ROLLER,HEEL CUPS, TONS OF OVER THE
COUNTER ARCHES...MEDICINE CUPBOARD FULL OF PAIN PILLS AND
GLUCOSAMINES NOT TO MENTION ANTIDEPRESSANTS...OH AND I
HAD A CAST FOR 10 WEEKS......TRUST ME I HAVE BEEN TO HELL AND
NOW I AM WALKING AGAIN IN IOWA....

Dear JMTRAPPER: I'm not quite sure what you are talking about. Is this a magnetic
insert? What is it called, how does it work and where did you get it? Sounds like it's
worth a try for 90% improvement! Thanks for more info.

beej2,

I emailed him and asked for the info on the magnets. I have heard of that before, but
that person said they didn't work well for her. ( I think it was Flutopia!)

Anyway, maybe he has a better brand!

I have had two pairs of custom made orthotics at the tune of about $500. One was
hard and one soft. the hard one completely irritated my foot and the soft was
ineffective. Last may I got Arizona birks , they were the best thing i had found in two
years but still went up and down. I went to another orthotics maker in June and she
gave me an orthotic named "the accomodater". It is a soft orthotic that molds to your
feet. You wear them a week, she adjusted them and then put a backing on them.
They cost me $50.00. I got two made, one for running shoes and one for dress.
Oddly the dress one is really comfortable and the athletic one in my hiking boots
works best. Its not perfect but best I have found. I wear them on and off with my
birks. My feet are much better. The company that makes the "accomadater" is
Ali-med. Good Luck!
