Re: Isn't Weight a Major Factor?

I'm sure excess weight doesn't help PF but I doubt it causes it either. I'm new to this message board and comparatively new to PF. But for more years than I want to describe, I was a walker who used exercise for weight control (also blood pressure control, etc.). I guess that in itself says something. I walked 4 or 5 miles a day at a real good clip and occasionally had foot pain, knee pain, leg pain, etc. -- and like many people "walked through it." And it did control the weight.

I stopped walking about 5 months ago and have gained some serious weight. Like many people on this board, I'm caught in the situation of finding it difficult (actually, impossible) to exercise in a way that promotes weight loss. (I'm not much of a swimmer.) I'm concerned not only about the weight, but also about what not exercising is doing to the rest of my body. Right now I'm aiming for weight control rather than loss, largely thru intelligent eating -- fish, veggies, more veggies, etc. But mostly I'm looking at ways to reduce the pain in my feet.

By the way, I'm not in the Orlando area, but I am in the Sarasota area. I have just started to scout this area for PF resources, but so far they look pretty drab and traditional. My first trip to a podiatrist: He diagnosed PF in both feet and promptly suggested $400 orthotics. I think I'd like to start with something less dramatic.
