Re: Doctor has discharged me

Take heart. There are alternative treatments left to try, new doctors to see, maybe new therapies around the corner. I know how easy it is to get discouraged -- probably not two days go by that this PF doesn't have me in tears. I can't even remember what life was like when I didn't have to constantly think about my feet. But you just never know what tomorrow may bring. Even modest relief is welcome for us.

My experience with doctors been that many are comfortable with a problem as long as they can make a diagnosis and prescribe a treatment. When they can't make a valid diagnosis or when they offer treatment that doesn't work -- and you, the patient, keep coming back and coming back wanting some else that DOES work -- that's when they get uncomfortable. And sometime discharge you, or else treat you so badly but keep taking your $$$$. Rare is the doctor who says, "Gee, I don't know what to do now. Maybe we should try...." I think it's their training -- in spite of it being the 1990's, I think docs are still trained to think of themselves as healing deities: only when they diagnose it correctly and render treatment that "cures" do they feel successful. Not much else gets dealt with. So we PFers must be a constant reminder of their infallibility. Anyway, you are among friends here. So even if you feel bad, at least you don't feel alone.
