vitamin c, wounds, kidney

Sodium ascorbate and calcium ascorbate is available, if your doctor is correct in his belief that it can hurt like "putting salt on a wound". I'd love to see a reference in the literature supporting this belief. C has been used topically for 30 years by enlightened physicians to speed the healing of wounds and burns. I've used it directly on fresh wounds with an immediate and sustained reduction in pain. If it does cause pain in the kidneys, I suspect the pain is minor compared to its healing effect. In all fish, amphibians, and reptiles, vast quantities of ascorbic acid are produced in the kidneys. It's acidity is less than coca-cola (although coke's acidity may not make it to the urine). As early as 1971 Rous was using it to treat urethritis. "3 grams daily for 4 days will relieve all symptoms." Chronic cystitis is said to cease as a clinical entity on 10 grams a day, especially if you use the ascorbic acid form of C since most cases involve overly-alkaline urine.
