I also use a recumbent bike. The PF does not seem to be any worse when I ride. I let my feet relax somewhat - between flexed and pointed and vary where the pedal hits my foot. I also make sure my shoes are not tied too tight. I try to use my quadriceps to do the work instead of pushing with my feet on the pedals. I keep a low intensity - 1 or 2 -and ride for about 30 minutes. I've started only stretching my calves (after riding) and not my feet. Hope this helps.
