Suzi, just before PF really struck my feet, I had several months of pain right under my toes (second, third and fourth). Also on the ball of my foot. But I really noticed the toe pain for weeks on end (and like an idiot, I did little but "walk thru it"). I had it mostly when I went walking; it was real bad for the first mile or two, but by the third and fourth mile it tapered off. Then, once the PF struck in a big way, the toe pain eased up to almost nothing. Of course, so did the walking. I don't really have any helpful suggestions, although I certainly champion your decision to avoid the cortisone shot.
