Birki's refer to a manufacturer from Germany who's full name is Birkenstock. The sandels (and some shoes) are designed to support the arch of the foot and cradle the heal. I tell my kids they are my "hippie" sandels. No pretty but very effective. They make a resin based, silk lined 3/4 shoe insert with the same support as their standard product. They run $40 to $55. I have to have them in my shoes or my PF pain re-starts within an hour. Via Yahoo! using Birki as a search, there are several firms online that will sell you the product. Some outdoor type retailers (Hudson Trail Outfitters or Eastern Mtn Sports) will carry their product. Probably cheaper thatn customs, but may not be as good. I'm to frugal to invest in custom orthotics....yet.
