Re: Sandy, about Birks

Hi Sandy. This is in response to your comments to Paymon about Birkenstocks (down lower on the board). If you're wearing heels comfortably right now, Birks may be difficult for you, and very hard to wear. But -- try a pair on if you can. I just bought my second pair and so far it's the shoe that has done the most for me. I think that's where my retirement fund may end up going. They're not cheap by far.

You can order Birks on the 'Net. Try www.birkenstockexpress.com. Also, QVC has some Birks -- although they have eliminated the European sizing and I'm not quite sure what they're doing with sizing. If you possibly can though, I suggest you find a Birkenstock store somewhere near where you live or at least a store that sells many of them and go try them on and get fitted properly. When I was wearing regular shoes, I was wearing a 9 or 9 1/2. I even have ladies 10s in my closet. That would translate to about a 40 in Euro sizing. The lady in the Birkenstock store spent a lot of time fitting me. We went through 40s, 39s and finally settled on 38s which fit perfectly. I would never have chosen that size for myself, but given the structure of the shoe it's just what I need. So try to get a Birk store if you can and someone to fit you for the shoes.
