I wish there was a more difinitative answer.
At this point I have been to two Ortho MD's and twp Podiatrist.
The first Ortho MD said "I have only done two of these (removal of a heel spur that bites into the tendon) and each has been under an emergency situation. The Podiatrist gave cortisone shots that relieved the pain while evaluating surgery as an option. Now that the tendon ruptured, he say's "It's beyong what he can do" and referred to a specialist that does foot and ankle surgery. They did do an MRI to determine the extent of damage.
The surgery will entail removal of the bone spur, then re-attachment and repair of the tendon at the heel. He says it will take an hour and a half.
It looks like that is the only option left at this time.
