Think it depends on your feet. I used to have to wear sneakers ankle high because my ankles loved to turn,but find with the birks sandals my feet stay straighter, figure that one :). So can wear the sandal better then shoes, they keep my feet happy and well center. I wear my birks inserts in hiking boots and they seem to do good now, but still love to put on my sandals. :) good luck
