My thinking is that rest alone won't cure PF unless one has a mild case of it. The calf muscles and achilles tendon also need to be stretched so that the plantar fascia is less tight and capable of being walked on without inflamming it and causing pain. The chronic PF sufferer has a bio-mechanical problem in which their calf and achilles tendon are too tight ( in addition to perhaps having high arches or flat feet ) and these need to be stretched out in order to get better. Someone who doesn't have this biomechanical deficit would in theory get better by resting a bit. But that is not the case with the average PF sufferer. Because they have this biomechanical problem, that needs to be corrected first.
