Re: Thanks for everything, again

A lot of people on this board are lucky to have supportive and understanding families, spouses, significant others, etc. But not everyone does. I don't have a difficult family -- I just have virtually no family. I live in Florida and my father lives here for 4 months during the winter -- but other than that, I'm in it alone. Sometimes I think that's easier than to have family (whom you would EXPECT to care and understand) members who don't care or understand. Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

But CJ, the ugly truth is, very few people care or understand. We all look normal to the rest of the world. We're not using crutches or arm slings or casts or braces. We might be limping a little or going very slowly but we don't look genuinely sick or in pain or disabled. And to the rest of the world -- we're not. We don't have cancer, leukemia, AIDS or a host of other serious maladies, and so people are just very quick to assume that we don't really suffer nearly as much as we say. I honestly believe that until your feet hurt all the time, you have no idea what this horrible condition is like. And once your feet DO hurt all the time -- you got PF real bad. And it's too late to turn back and be uninformed and ignorant again.

This message board sometimes saves my sanity too. I think there are lots of us for whom that's true. Only you can make the decision about surgery or whatever treatment is next. Don't let anyone make up your mind for you, CJ. It's your mind. They're your feet. It's your life. Do what you think will be best for your health -- that's the No. 1 issue. Trust me -- whatever you decide, it will not be the end of life as we know it for your family or anyone else in the world. They will be fine. The whole point is to make you fine again, or as fine as you can be.
