On my last visit I found the needles right into the heel to be somewhat painful - on the earlier visits much less so. (I must say that my last visit was late afternoon after I had been on the foot much of the day, and it was playing up a bit before I went to see him) He didn't use any paste with me - just six needles in the heel and foot, together with one in my wrist. My Chinese acu. dr. had placed needles all down my legs, and in my hand - as well as one in the actual heel. Best wishes
