Re: Barb & Bobbie, count me in

I think we make a trio. I am 50, quit smoking nearly 2 years ago (after having smoked for 30 solid years). I had been walking since around 40, but when I quit smoking I gained weight -- so I walked more and more and more, and within a year found I had PF in both feet. So much for walking. Then, I ripped my knee ligament. So -- I figure I'm about 30 lbs overweight with 2 bad feet and one bad knee -- and it appears arthritis beginning serious in both hands.

I really miss walking. I live in Florida and right now is prime walking season -- and I'm very jealous of everyone who is out there. But, I do have a stationary bike which I can ride about 20-25 minutes a day (I have to split it into 2 sessions because of my knee, but the PT says I can work my way up to 20 minutes per session by spring or summer).

I find PF to be so terribly limiting and restrictive. Sometimes it just gets me so angry. If I had known I was going to lose my mobility at such a young age -- I would have packed in a whole lot more living! But, I try hard not to get too angry and not to get depressed, because then the PF wins. At least if I preserve all the remaining health I have, and if I enjoy every part of life that I CAN participate in (even if it's from a position of sitting on my butt) -- then the PF loses and I win. As nasty as PF is -- it may influence my life but I won't let it take over.
Good luck to both of you, to all of us.
