I don't see how it would hurt, sometimes when I've really done a number on my feet or when I'm going to be on them a lot, I supplement my custom orthotic with an arch support band (think of it as a big wide fabric-covered-hair-thingie). I don't tape anymore but I think we're talking about roughly the same thing.
