Re: who's athletic shoes do you recommend?

John C. is right on! You need to consider all the things he mentioned, and get FITTED PROPERLY. Proper fit means ensuring enough room in the toe box - at least a thumb's width between your longest toe and the end of the shoe. Make sure you get fitted with the socks you will be wearing. Select shoes and socks as a system. Make sure the shoes fit comfortably - the ball of your foot should fit comfortably into the widest part of the shoe; and the heel should not exhibit a lot of slippage up and down when you walk or run. Don't trust the shoe size without trying it on. Sizes vary all over the map - even those for shoes made by the same manufacturer. The only way to select the proper size is by trying it on.

Most people have one foot slightly larger than the other. Fit your shoes to the larger of your two feet. Personally, I recommend high top basketball shoes for extra ankle support.

At the end of the day, the best shoe for you is the one that gives you the most comfort. Best of luck.
