I just got a pair of Birkenstock's and as soon as I tried them on I didn't have any heel pain. They neeed to be broken in as they are a little uncomfortable in the arch. I am excited. I had tried them before and couldn't wear them and didn't think i would be able to, I wish I hadn't waited so long. Hope they work for you.
