What about using ice water???

Does anyone know if it is OK to use ice water? I tried filling a plastic dishpan with ice and water so I could soak all of both feet at once. It sure hurt, but I wondered if I was gaining from my pain. Now I'm back to using straight ice because I wasn't sure.
