This sounds like a torn fascia, which is very similar to ligament tissue. Treat it very gently so that it never hurts, take 4 grams/day vitamin C and grape seed extract to help the tissue heal back stronger. And aspirin and ibuprofen for inflammation. Give it time to heal back strong. Don't reinjure it. You should be in better shape than those of us that it started gradually in. 2 months rest (learn how to tape) with a gradual return to activities should cure it.
