Re: Pain in the feet

Hi Renee:

About all I can offer is sympathy and a recommendation that you read the informtion contained on this site. To summarize what I've learned on my own, from reading on this site, from talking to others with PF, what works for one doesn't work for another and vice versa.

I had orthotics. They were more painful at first but I kept at it and got some measure of relief. At least I could walk. Then it got bad again. I had the surgery to remove the spur and to "cut a few threads". This was done with a tiny incision. At first it was worse. Then it improved somewhat and I had a few nearly pain free years. But the pain free years, I must say, came about after I lost 97 pounds. I believe it was the weight loss not the surgery that gave me relief. Then it started up again big-time. This coincided with gaining weight back. This is not everyone's history. I have bone thin friends who have PF.

I have had the shots. My face gets hot and I get relief for about 24-48 hours. Then it starts all over again. The Dr. now tells me only surgery will bring me relief.

For right now, I am taking Votaren, an antiinflammatory. It gives me some relief. I wear my orthotics, always...and i do mean always...I'm new to this site but I intend to follow some of the other pieces of advice...what can I lose?

This is a discouraging ailment because it is not obvious. There's not big scar hanging out...no obvious deformity...it isn't terminal...no one has ever heard of it...so everyone kind of just gapes when you say "I can't go, my foot hurts". That's kind of like not going out because you have a runny nose...at least that's how people look at you sometimes.

For right now, search the site. Make notes. Write down things to try. All of the suggestions listed have been tried and have worked or not worked for different people in different ways.

And above all...don't ignore any advice here. What works for one person may work for you and it may not...but you won't know until you try it. As one who has had the surgery and is having it recommended again....I can only say that for me, they'd have to come and get me and hog tie me and carry me in.

But stay tuned. I could change my mind if all else fails.
