That is exactly how my PF started last November. My body is quite susceptable to this kind of thing happening, as it has happened before with other joints(wrist, knee & ribs) (I call it weirdo arthritis). I just started seriously addressing the PF in the past three weeks, because it would get a little better, and then worse, but not go away. For me, it takes months usually to get over the inflamation. You may be able to summon up a better immune response and recover quicker though than I am able to. Let us know how you are doing.
