John: Your medical history looks a lot like mine! (I've had 7 podiatrists, 1 ortho. dr., a rheumatologist, a neurosurgeon, a neurologist). The only thing I might suggest is to try the NSAID again - one course isn't much, and I have been told that there are many different types, and what works for one person is highly individual. So, it takes some trial & error - I took ibuprofen for 2 months with little relief - switched to Daypro for several months - got better relief, especiall at first. Then, to Cataflam, which has helped the most. Been on that over a year. When I try to go off, after about 3 days, I get worse. So, go back on. I may be burning holes in my stomach (altho. I don't have any symptoms). Talk to your dr about the NSAIDS again. At least you can get some pain relief while healing. I wish you much luck. By the way, what was the outcome of the surgery in Dec 97 - doesn't sound like it helped much. Please tell us more about that!
