Messaging and streching helps break up the tightness and scar tissue and alows me to have more flexibility while running. Just ease into both messaging and streching. I don't think you can do too much. It's hard for me to do enough because the tightness comes back. Warmth and heat also allows for flexibility. That is why I think warmer weather here in Michigan will be beneficial. I've trid ice many time with this injury and others. Although ice creates a healing effect by bringing blood to the injured area, I find it just makes the PF tighter. Unfortunately, this creates a trade off. As a result, I'll choose heat over ice for this injury. Best wishes
