I am wondering what the purpose of night splints are - doctor mentioned those as a next step. The inserts seem to be working at the moment and I am walking fairly well. But it goes day by day/ |

After undergoing 4 shots of cortisone, of which only one provided any relief, I moved to NJ (from NC). Over the past few weeks I started getting the same pain i my right heel. I could hardly walk after sitting down for anylenth of time. So I finally decided to see a new doctor for this problem. She orderd many bloodtests, but also put me on a NSAID called Daypro. I take it twice a day. I can not belived how well it seems to be working. I also walked around a mall for 2 hours today with no pain. I hope this keeps on working. |

I had it done on my left foot 2 weeks ago, I'm still on crutches only putting a little weight on the ball of my foot (very little), my foot is swollen and tingles and has the sensation of needles sticking into it. My doctor said last week he is concerned about the swelling especially in the ball of my foot and to elevate it, wear my tennis shoe (which feels 3 sizes too small) and to deep massage it 2 to 3 times a day. I've followed all instructions to the letter and still no better. I go back to him tomorrow. Has anyone else ever experienced this? Thanks, Cheri |

I live near Chicgo and need to find someone that specializes in PF. Any suggestions? |

Nothing has helped much, including stretching, anti-inflammatories, cortisone shots and a week on oral steroids. I can't walk far without pain and the worst thing is standing still. Ice seems imperative and helps for a bit. I am now feeling much more nerve involvement-- burning and tingling. Does anyone have these symptoms, which seem to indicate nerve involvement? I am very frustrated, having just been told that I may have something more than PF by my podiatrist. She says that the fact that I have fibromyalgia may be a reason for resistance to treatment. If anyone has any ideas or feedback, I'd appreciate it. |

I am now on Naprosyn 1,000 mg a day and am starting orthotics. My question is this, the cortisone shots have really really helped me. My doctor is however hesitant to give them to me. He has not given me an adequate explanation. THIS Is the only thing that seems to help the pain. Has anyone had this experience with their doctor and what is the downside to having these shots? THANKS! e-mail me at jgkerb@webtv.net if you have any answers. |

Name: Susan S Website: Referred by: Just Surfed On In! From: Davis, CA Time: 1997-03-30 18:04:00 Comments: Help! Looking to comisserate with other PF sufferers. I haven't been able to walk much since October 96. Diagnosis: PF - right foot. Podiatrist put me in a Camwalker - and 1 week later - a wheelchair because my good foot was being affected by extra weight load. Wore the Camwalker and a night splint for 7-8 weeks with minimal result. Put on Prednisone - no effect. Cortisone shot made it worse. Only relief comes from Naprosyn (an ant-inflammatory drug), iontophoresis with a PT and rest. I ice my feet, swim for exercise, and wear orthotics. DPM does NOT suggest surgery - poor prognosis, he says. No heel spurs show on x-rays, but a certain amount of tearing has occured in the faschia. I think I'm losing my mind. Still using crutches, hobbling. No one can offer any hope - just "grin and bear it". Can this be for real? |
Name: Ana Maria Norris Website: Referred by: Net Search From: Guam Time: 1997-03-29 20:53:00 Comments: My plantar fasciitis was so severe, I was unable to walk for two months (April-May 1996). I had the support from my company to work from home and my sister to take care of me so it was asprin, rest, & ice three times a week that helped. By June & July, I was regaining my balance and walking with help from my husband. In August, I got my spring stainless steel arch supports from Feathersprings, Inc. (out of Seattle, Washington), which allowed me to feel comfortable in my shoes. It wasn't until NOvember that I could comfortably go up and down stairs. I still cannot stand for long periods of time but I'm getting there! Finally after a year, I am able to exercise my feet to strengthen them. I have found the Super-Nobby Birkenstock shoe to be a wonderful shoe. |

Is it possible that I got PF from constant sprains and weakness in the foot area. I had weakness in my left and right leg and tryed to kick a soccer ball tareing ligaments from a twist in the knee down. I endured almost a year of weakness in the right foot for a year, then discovered the PF with spur. Rboiter |

Dull ache and burning sensation in both feet in area of PF plus outside of foot.No sharp pains. Worsens as day progresses especially if standing.Standing worse than walking. No previous Injury to cause PF.May have started due to flat shoes worn to long. First felt like a heel bruise. # yrs. now. Custom orthotic helps.Wear jogging/walking shoes all the time now.Stretching calves, hams, and soleus religiously.Scale of 1 to 10(worse) it has gone from a 6 to a 4. Have taken Advil and prescription anti-inflam. but did not help enough to continue. Tried PT with anti-inflam. electrodes and massage. Electrodes didn't help. PT says my feet are very tight. Massage helps. Icing helps some. Use on bottom but maybe need to use elsewhere. Rolling t-ball on soles feels great. don't want shots or surgery. WANT TO SOLVE PROBLEM NOT JUST WORK ON SYMPTONS. Can stress cause the tissues in the feet to tense-up and make the feet susceptible to PF? Want to visualize but can't figure out what to visualize since no one can figure out what's wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas! THANK YOU! |

To be sure, I did and will continue to seek my doctor's advice, but I will be armed with alternative view points. |
