Ihad bilateral plantar fasiectomy 2 days ago at an outpatient surgical center. The pain is not too bad, mostly my feet feel tingly and numb with occasional stabs of pain. I certainly don't regret having the surgery (yet!) and I have complete confidence in my POD. After living with this pain for two years + I was desparate to try the Sx.; everything else failed.... excercise, boots, injections, prednisone, ice, Inoso. etc. I now have lot more empathy for people in wheelchairs; manuevering around this house trying to get house cleaned etc. is a real bummer. Try to read but keep falling asleep. Especially sinse I'm an ADDER (person with attention deficit order) well at times I'm going BONKERS! Will continue to post...Thanx!

I had bilateral fasciotomy surgery appx. 6 weeks ago. The first 3 weeks in a wheelchair were allmost bliss but now that I'am partial weight bearing well the pain is excruciating!! The heel pain is not exactly like pre-sx.; its more of a stabbing constant pain after standing and walking for 5-10 min. I don't regret the surgery but i'm scared because the doctor said i shouldnt be having this increasing pain...I guess he has to present the worst case scenario though. I have hope that with more rest and time (and vicodin!!) this pain will dissipate... I desparetly want to get back to work...will let you all know if the pain decreases so that I can back on my elliptical and lose this 16 lbs I've gained sitting on this wheelchair so much!

Hi, sorry it took me so long to get back and post progress. It is now just a little over 4 months since I had the bilateral open fascia release. My feet feel so much better!! I was more that a little concerned with the excrutiating pain I experienced in August and September but starting around mid October, well the pain started to lessen day by day. Of course the real test will be when I go back to work next week: I work 12 hour shifts... will let you know. I truly believe everyone heals at thier own pace, Will post again soon.D.G.

I had my surgery 6/25/2002, sorry I took so long to re-post; I know feedback is important for all heel pain sufferers! Overall I am really happy with the SX (bilateral plantar fasciotiomy). I went back to work (R.N. on a busy cardiac unit) working 12 hour shifts, 2 days a week November 2002. It's kind of hard to explain the pain during and after work.... sometimes the pain (on both heels) is a nusiance dull pain, the pain decreases and escalates..(pain scale about a 3) The pain is not the throbbing, severe pain prior to SX! My feet don't feel "normal" and I guess they never will, i.e. every morning I hop out of bed and kind of just hobnob on the soles of my feet (with slippers on) feeling steady only after putting on my shoes/orthotics.My heels feel numb at all times but when I accidently step on something such as a pen cap or extention cord; well the pain is a real stabbing owwee pain! I hope I'm making some kind of sense here, the pain is kind of wierd but it definitly is not the pre-sx. pain (it also abates upon being propped up) When I'm shopping for 3 hours plus in the mall or browsing in library, sometimes 50-50% they hurt 4 or 5 on pain scale. Of course I still firmly believe my feet carry a heavy load; I need to lose at least 35 lbs, have just started the ATKINS for life diet,no hunger pain at all. Will post back in a month or so...D.G.

Hi...Sorry I took so long to repost; I know alot of people will often not repost thereby not sharing their progress or lack of. It has been appx. 15 months since my open bilateral fasciotomy. Unfortunatly, the pain is back with a vengence. Again, it's so hard to describe when and how long they hurt; sometimes they both hurt (the heels), other times just one heel will hurt and even the archs will ache. The pain is different than the pre-sx. pain; more of a nuisance, intermittent stabbing pain which is alleviated by propping my feet and swallowing a couple of vicodin or motrin. This has been a wretched, horrid summer (can't stand temp. > 68`) thus I haven't excercised on my elliptical or recumbent...too hot! I also still need to lose 35 lbs at least and blame myself (and mother nature) for being so uninspired; I truly believe when I have less of a load to carry the pain will subside. I saw my POD last week; he couldn't reproduce the pain upon manipulation of my heels and is at a loss as to why they hurt (of course, needless to say I hadn't walked for more than 5 minutes that morning!) The pain occurs after walking, being on my feet more than an hour of so; sometimes the pain is a 4 or so on pain scale but most often it's a '7'. I'm dissappointed with the surgery now but who knows, maybe in time this pain will subside. D. G.
