Had both heels operated on at the same time in 12/85 for Haglund's Deformity. Left heel bone shaved, no problem. Right heel, achilles tendon removed, bone shaved & tendon reattached. 7 weeks in walking casts. Limped for three years following surgery.
Over the past few years, every now and then would get very sharp pains in back of heel. Got so severe over the past five months, went back to the doctor. X-rays reveal "rounded bony densities in the soft tissue at the insertion of the achilles tendon" and "one well corticated bone just adjacent to the insertion of the achilles tendon."
Went directly to a surgeon 7/04 who said he would not touch my heel with a ten foot pole. Gave me heel lifts that don't work and naproxen that doesn't work either. Currently looking at ultrasound technology or surgery when I find a surgeon.
