First Entry: Date: 11/10/2004 . . . Pain Level: 2 . . . Activity Level: 3 . . . Satisfaction with surgery:
I had the surgery on 11/3/2004 so it's only be a week since the surgery. I had EPF with spur removal and also had a stress fracture. I have to be in an air cast for three weeks and then in a walking shoe for three weeks. Everyone is different but I had this surgery 10 years ago on my left foot and it was the surgery from hell. Everything that could possibly go wrong did. This time it was almost a piece of cake. I was expecting a ton of pain to kick in after the surgery but it never did. I rented a roll-a-bout which really helped and after 5 days was able to get up on crutches. I have alot of neurological stuff going on so my balance is off which is why I didn't want to try it sooner. I'm walking now around the house and still icing at night. I know it's to soon to tell the outcome and I also know I have a long way to go to heal but it's so much better than last time (the after effects) that I have hope. All I know is before this I had a stress fracture that wouldn't heal, spent 8 weeks in a cast, had alot of pain and was miserable. At least I feel like I'm on my way. My doctor was truly excellent and made all the difference. The $1,800 was his fee - I don't know what the fees were for the surgical center and anaestheologist and all that yet.

Date: 12/21/2004 . . . Pain Level: 2 . . . Activity Level: 4 . . . Satisfaction with surgery: 8
12/21 - it's about 7 weeks post op and I'm doing o.k. I'm no longer using crutches but I'm still icing my foot before I go to bed, my ankle and foot is still swelling (not alot but I have bony feet so you can really tell) and my good foot is hurting from taking some of the brunt of walking. I have good days and bad days. I'm wearing shoes but the surgery foot is a little tight from the swelling and I can feel if I overdo it (like walking around Walmart). However, I'm tired and lazy. Don't know if it's a combination of the surgery, winter and staying in the house but I just don't feel like doing anything and I'm getting tired of anything FEET related! LOL! I also know this surgery has an 8 -12 month healing period and I'm waiting for time to pass but in the meantime I'm trying to take some weight off because I figured it probably hurts in the longrun.
